Focus on Boston: Travelers Love it's Past, Present & Future

Places To Go, Things To See Boston is affectionately known as "Beantown", a nickname that descends from colonial days when beans, slow-baked in molasses, were a popular local dish. The city is known for its balance of old-world tradition and modern development, a quality that is visible in all aspects of urban life. We're sure you'll find lots to love about Boston!

For starters, there is so much to see and do in Boston. The countless shopping centers, bars, pubs, theatres, museums, parks, and historic sites make this city a great place to visit. Who says life is all work and no play?

Boston is a manageable city that is easily traversed via the public transportation system. In fact, it has the distinction of being rated one of the ten easiest walking cities in the United States. The city is home to one of the largest and most expensive construction projects in the world, The Big Dig. To be completed in 2005, this project will essentially move an expressway underground, opening up the waterfront for future development. Coincidentally, Clinical One's corporate headquarters is located 12 miles north of Boston!

The Boston healthcare system is one of the best in the country. Ranked as the top recipient for grant awards from the National Institutes of Health, this top-notch healthcare system attracts the best talent, and is a great resume builder.

This success is attributed to the world-renowned hospitals that surround the city of Boston in neighborhoods such as the Longwood Medical and Academic area.

The Longwood section is regarded as one of the most reputable medical, research and educational centers in the United States. It is the hub of Boston's medical community. Institutions located in the Longwood area include Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Children's Hospital. Each hospital is known for its own successes.

Brigham and Women's Hospital is a 700-bed teaching facility affiliated with Harvard Medical School. This top ranked hospital is a leader in patient care and is also home to the reputable Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is also associated with Harvard Medical School. It is a 600-bed, Level 1 Trauma Center that has helped carry Boston to its #1 ranking in medical excellence.

Children's Hospital Boston is ranked as the nation's top children's hospital, according to U.S. News and World Report. This 300-bed hospital is the leader in pediatric research, and is affiliated with Harvard Medical School.

Many other hospitals outside of the Longwood Area also share in the medical success of Boston. Such hospitals include New England Medical Center and The Lahey Clinic Medical Center.

New England Medical Center is the chief teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine. The 400-bed facility has been caring for patients for over 200 years.

The Lahey Clinic Medical Center is also affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. It is ranked as one of the best facilities in the nation. Lahey's main campus is a 250-bed hospital that couples world-renowned specialty care with primary care services.

No matter where you choose to work in Boston, you will be among the best in world-class healthcare.

Dining Out
For authentic Italian food, Boston has it's own version of Italy in the North End, one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. The North End is bursting at the seams with quaint Italian restaurants, pastry and desert shops, bakeries and Italian-style cafés. This is a wonderful section of the city to experience.

Faneuil Hall was originally built in 1742 to host a merchant marketplace. Now it is a bustling food court in which patrons can sample virtually any cuisine their heart desires. The greater Faneuil Hall area has it all, from formal restaurants, bars, and clubs to the New England Aquarium which is just a 2-minute walk away. There's also a popular comedy club located within the Hall, sure to provide some great laughs!

Attractions
Most visitors to Boston never leave empty handed! There are shopping districts in Boston that suit every individual's wallet. For the best in world-class shopping, Newbury Street is a posh, expensive, and trendy destination. For those who are more frugal, Downtown Crossing's Filene's Basement offers bargains galore. Harvard Square in Cambridge has a college-town feel with street musicians and bookstores around every corner.

Interested in the Arts and Sciences? Boston is home to the Museums of Science and Fine Arts, both featuring collections and exhibits designed to dazzle. For those of you who enjoy history, Boston and its suburbs offer opportunities to experience many historical and cultural influences on American life, including the famous Freedom Trail, the USS Constitution and the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum. In the towns of Lexington and Concord, you will find a number of monuments dating back to the Revolutionary War. In historic Concord, visit the homes of the most influential thinkers of the nineteenth century, including Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Louisa May Alcott, author of Little Women. Another town worth noting for it's colonial history is Salem, site of the infamous Salem Witch trials!

Sports Scene
Boston has a reputation of being a great sports town, and is home to five professional sports teams. If you are a basketball or hockey buff, you can catch all the action at the FleetCenter, where fans love to cheer on the Celtics and the Bruins. The Boston Red Sox play at Fenway Park, the oldest ballpark in major league baseball. Don't forget about the 2002 NFL SuperBowl champions, the New England Patriots, who have settled into their new home nicely - a multi-billion dollar complex, Gillette Stadium was opened in 2002 and also home to Boston's Professional Soccer team, the New England Revolution!

We're sure you'll find there are many things to love about Boston - past, present and future!
