Established in 1886, Fort Myers is the historical and governmental hub of Lee County. Nestled along the scenic shoreline of the Caloosahatchee River, the city has become an interesting blend of young and old. Extensive renovation of the historic downtown waterfront is underway, with new restaurants, nightclubs, apartments, and artistic venues providing energy and growth.
The Lee Memorial Health System is the leading provider of health care in Southwest Florida and has served the citizens of Lee County and surrounding communities since 1916. Cobb building, which is still in use today, served as the county's general store and trading post. Today, residents and visitors enjoy an attractive historic downtown waterfront, with unique shopping, restaurants, marina, galleries and a 1923 performing arts theatre currently under renovation. With numerous annual events, Fort Pierce has something for everyone to experience!
In Ft. Pierce, Lawnwood Regional Medical Center is a 345-bed, acute care facility and the largest medical center in St. Lucie County.
