Focus on Washington, DC: A Favorite Destination of Clinical One Travelers!
One of the most attractive benefits of being a travel nurse is having the ability to choose the geographical location in which you will work. Washington DC and the surrounding area has always been a favorite destination of Clinical One travelers.
Feedback from our travelers on assignment in the DC-Metro, has been overwhelming! They want everyone to know, loud and clear, that DC is the place to be!
Without a doubt, anyone with the slightest hint of interest in history, government or politics will be entertained for the length of their assignment in DC. In fact, a common theme among travelers in the DC-Metro are, was the feeling that there is so much to experience, they will need to take another assignment in order do it all!
Most incredible about the sites in DC, is the fact there is so much to do for free! Jeanette Johnson, a Clinical One traveler, recommends visiting the Smithsonian Institutes, the Holocaust Museum ("get there early, as passes are limited") and the National Zoo, which has a bus that takes visitors to and from the Metro, DC's form of public transportation. Thanks for the hints Jeanette!
Another popular suggestion from travelers is to explore the surrounding areas of Virginia and Maryland. This includes stopping at Great Fall, VA for beautiful hiking and nature trails to walk or mountain bike. In historic Williamsburg, travelers enjoyed witnessing Civil War reenactments and learning more about the lives of Lincoln and Lee. In Maryland, the Baltimore harbor area is a must see, and is yet another easy day trip from the Metro-DC area.
Nature enthusiasts will love the gardens and fragrant fruit trees located throughout the grounds of DC's major attractions, but often overlooked are the mountains and valleys beyond. We heard from one traveler who, while on assignment in Vienna, VA, made trips out to the western part of the state and found the perfect site for getting back to basics: "I went to the mountain area to find hiking, beautiful mountains and countryside." A great day trip in Western VA includes a visit to Luray Caverns to see the extensive underground network of caverns with thousand-year-old stalactites and stalagmites.
Another traveler, who was on assignment at Holy Cross Hospital on the outskirts of DC, loved the close proximity to landmarks combined with the rural setting of the Maryland neighborhood in which she lived. "I was there in the fall and it was absolutely beautiful. Maryland is a beautiful state and DC is a must see. To stand on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and look across the Mall to the Washington Monument is just an awesome experience. I definitely recommend the area and that hospital."
This enthusiastic traveler can best sum up our findings: 'DC is my favorite area…I loved all of it. I am looking forward to my next assignment to the area. I LOVE DC!'
