So much has been said about the popular Bay Area of California that it might pique your interest for future assignments! The term 'Bay Area' is loosely applied to the cities surrounding the San Francisco and San Pablo Bays. This beautiful slice of the California coast is a favorite of travelers for many reasons. Parks and Recreation
The area's temperate climate is a paradise for outdoor lovers. From North Bay to South Bay there are hundreds of locations for hiking, biking, camping, fishing, surfing or just sunning yourself on the beach or pool. There's also the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, one of the largest urban parks in the country. These public lands are nearly two and a half times the size of San Francisco and encompass several national treasures including Alcatraz, Fort Mason, and the Marin Headlands.
Visit the Lindsay Wildlife Museum in Walnut Creek, a nationally recognized wildlife hospital and rehabilitation center that offers educational classes, tours and much more for both adults and children. Also visit the "new" San Francisco Zoo. It has an expanded Children's Zoo, a new lemur forest and an expansion designed to mimic the African savannah! Further south, the new 4000 sq foot aviary in Coyote Point Park & Museum is a bird watchers paradise with its tastefully landscaped trees and ponds.
Sightseeing, Dining and Entertainment
World famous Fisherman's Wharf is hands down San Francisco's most popular destination. Known for its historic waterfront, delicious seafood, spectacular sights and unique shopping, the Wharf offers a wide array of activities for all. Visit Scoma's restaurant for mouth watering seafood in an elegant setting, or stop by for a cup of coffee and view the art at Mosaique Cafe. Chocolate lover's paradise is Ghirardelli Square, and San Francisco's Chinatown is one of the largest in the nation. Across the bridge, the East bay has its own exciting attractions. Check out Children's Fairyland, a 10-acre park where children can see fairy tales come to life and participate in educational activities, or visit the Paramount theatre, home of the award winning Oakland Ballet and Symphony.
Don't miss a chance to take a day trip to the Sonoma Valley Wineries! Imagine a hot air balloon trip over the vast fields, then coming back down to the ground for a winery tour in a limousine! Dine at the culinary landmark of Chez Panisse in Berkeley, which is considered to be the birthplace of Californian cuisine, or try the world-renowned Top of the Mark sky lounge, with its beautiful 360-degree view of San Francisco.
